I started a true crime documentary series last month. Last month I talked about “The Staircase.” This month, I’m going to talk about a series that has been out for a while but is always interesting to watch. This series follows a historical case. I’m talking about The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
The overall outcome of the series is to be expected. O.J. is found not guilty. I was not old enough to be aware of the original trial or have much recollection of the aftermath. However, it is an extremely interesting case. It is a part of pop culture and is well known in households across America.
Now, on to the series. This series is a reenactment of the trial. I immediately recognized David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian (his young family even makes an appearance). The cast in my opinion is spot on. It was interesting to see the case play out on screen. While I stated before I am vaguely aware of what happened, it was nice to see how the case came to be. There are also scenes on both sides of the case. We see how the prosecutor is portrayed and what the office is thinking. We also see the jury and their sequester. Finally, we see the defense and their take on the case. All these different sides are coming together to present and decide on the case. Overall, I think it gives a well-rounded view of everything that happened in the case. While I think that there are things missing, the directors had to keep everything down. I’m sure there were other things that didn’t make the cut.
I would highly recommend watching this series. It is a ten-episode series and an easy binge on a weekend. I would even recommend watching it more than once. I think this series also makes you think, is O.J. innocent like the jury said he was? I’m torn on the verdict. What are your thoughts?
